Meta description

More information about the tag meta description

The meta description contains the first part of the html-code from your landing page (), a short description of the content of a specific web page. The most important keyword for the page must be included in the meta description.

The Google search results will then be given according to a fixed pattern:

  • the title of the web page - or the meta title if that is more relevant - in the form of a link to the landing page;
  • the URL for this landing page;
  • a piece of text amounting to two lines at most, or snippets from the landing page text which contain the keyword from the search task, or the meta description or a part thereof, on the condition that the text has a decent connection with the keyword and the landing page content.

More information about the tag meta description

It is ideal if you can make the meta description so relevant for the keyword and the content of the landing page that Google puts the text of this next to the link to your landing page. Human visitors thus immediately see that your page clearly contains the information that they are looking for.

It is even better if you can include a call-to-action in the meta description which urges human visitors to take a specific action.
